Axometric Drawing

Project Brief: Design a community centre in Elwood.

The project site is based in Elwood, and the brief required us to design a community centre for the locals, with spaces for reading and gardening. I started with a series of figure-ground drawings to establish the form of the design. Then, I found that Elwood has a relatively young population and that there are two schools nearby. Therefore, I focused on designing a more playful and adventurous space for younger people. With that in mind,I incorporated a lot of landscaping elements within the project, including areas that sink in to create a pond and small hills that act as playgrounds. The design of the buildings shape is also quite playful, with many curves and windows that provide views toward the garden.

Reflection

I think this is the project where I built the foundational skills for all my other projects and studios. The studio taught how to draw axometric drawing, sectional perspective, collages and renders. In addition, the studio culture was very supportive and forgiving. Even if the work wasn't great, there were still a lot of constructive and encouraging feedback. It really made me enjoy the process of design and become a better communicator with drawings
